After its main rival, Bmw, dominate the head lines in March at the Geneva Auto Show with the introduction of the new stop-start system that reduces CO2 emissions, Mercedes-Benz is prepared to give a response to the Bavarian automaker.
“We will catch up and get ahead,” said the head of r&d at Mercedes parent DaimlerChrysler, Mr. Thomas Weber. The German automaker will launch its new start-stop system on its entire lineup, and will begin with the A and B Class in September.
To make an idea about the new start-stop system, it works by shutting down the engine when the car stops, and restarts when the driver lifts his foot off the brake or pushes the accelerator.

For its larger models, Mercedes said that it will use a different system, a so-called ISG system, a flywheel that functions as both starter and generator.Such a system also reduce engine vibration and provide fill-in torque to smooth out gearshifts.
