After Seat introduced the diesel-engined Leon TDI and already won three races it is Bmw’s turn now to think that the diesel engines will help it win some races. It looks like the German automaker decided to build its own turbocharged diesel engine for the WTCC Championship.

Although Mario Thiessen, Bmw’s head of motorsport thinks that the diesel engine is no the way to improve the performances the German automaker looks decided to make the move. Mario Thiessen said that would prefer that all the cars ran the same engine formula like in the Formula 1 Championship. “There are always differences equalising front and rear-wheel drive, four and six-cylinder cars, and now this would be something else which is difficult to equalise. I would prefer it if all the cars ran the same engine formula, like in Formula One. By doing this, you remove the question marks which can arise,” said Theissen. Let’s hope now that Thiessen would change his mind!
